چکیده
11 The dynamics of a population of integrate and fire (IF) neurons with spike-frequency adaptation (SFA) 12 is studied. Using a population density approach and assuming a slow dynamics for the variable driving 13 SFA, an equation for the emission rate of a finite set of uncoupled neurons is derived. The system dynamics 14 is then analyzed in the neighborhood of its stable fixed points by linearizing the emission rate equation. The 15 information transfer properties are then probed by perturbing the system with a sinusoidal input current: 16 despite the low-pass properties of the dynamical variable associated with SFA, the adapting IF neuron 17 behaves as a band-pass device and a phase-lock condition appears at a frequency related to the character18 istic time constants of both neuronal and SFA dynamics. When a finite set of neurons is considered, the 19 power spectral density of the pooled firing rates shows for intermediate x a rich pattern of resonances. 20 Theoretical predictions are successfully compared to numerical simulations. 21 2006 Elsevier Inc. Development of intrinsic properties and excitability of layer 2/3 pyramidal neurons during a critical period for sensory maps in rat barrel cortex.
The development of layer 2/3 sensory maps in rat barrel cortex (BC) is experience dependent with a critical period around postnatal days (PND) 10-14. The role of intrinsic response properties of neurons in this plasticity has not been investigated. Here we characterize the development of BC layer 2/3 intrinsic responses to identify possible sites of plasticity. Whole cell recordings were perfor...
متن کاملElectrophysiological properties and carbamazepine sensitivity of epileptic human cortical neurons
There are between 20 and 30 drugs available for the treatment of seizures but despite this ~30% of the epilepsy population remains unresponsive to treatment. The underlying mechanisms behind drug resistance in temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) have not been completely identified. The purpose of this study was to determine if distinct types of neuronal firing patterns occurring in human epileptic cor...
متن کاملElectrophysiological and morphological properties of neurons in the rat superior colliculus. I. Neurons in the intermediate layer.
To begin characterizing the neural elements underlying the dynamic properties of local circuits in the mammalian superior colliculus (SC), electrophysiological and morphological properties of individual neurons in the intermediate layer [stratum griseum intermediale (SGI)] were investigated using whole cell patch-clamp recording and intracellular staining with biocytin in slice preparations fro...
متن کاملFiring properties and connectivity of neurons in the rat lateral central nucleus of the amygdala.
Using whole cell recordings from acute slices of the rat amygdala, we have examined the physiological properties of and synaptic connectivity to neurons in the lateral sector of the central amygdala (CeA). Based on their response to depolarizing current injections, CeA neurons could be divided into three types. Adapting neurons fired action potentials at the start of the current injections at h...
متن کاملResponses of primary somatosensory cortical neurons to controlled mechanical stimulation.
The results of psychophysical studies suggest that displacement velocity may contribute significantly to the sensation of subcortical somatosensory neurons. The cortical correlates of these phenomena, however, are not known. In the present study the responses of rapidly adapting (RA) neurons in the forelimb region of cat primary somatosensory cortex (SI) to controlled displacement of skin and h...
